Answers to your questions about Authentic’s range of products

How are your drawers constructed?

All our wooden cabinet drawers are made with traditional dove tailed fronts and backs and a solid drawer base- exactly how they should be made.

Are the tables and wooden furniture sealed to avoid stains?

All our tables and wooden furniture are finished with a reactive oil based treatment, over a matter of weeks this finish hardens and it provides a seal against stains and resistance to heat, however please ensure that any liquids, particularly dark liquids, are mopped up as soon as possible as if left it can soak through and cause damage to the surface

If you have any problems with staining on the furniture please contact our team and will can advise on how to remove the stain or arrange for our team to come and fix the issue for a small charge.

Where is the furniture made?

Our upholstery workshop is situated in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, the home of British upholstery.  Our craftsmen are passionate about “doing it right or not at all”, they follow the traditional methods of upholstery which to this day remain not only the best but also the right way to do things.  This passion and love for their trade and the Authentic philosophy manifests in the beautiful pieces of furniture they create.

Our timber workshop is located in the heart of Suffolk where the traditions of cabinet making are renowned as some of the finest in the world. The workshop is literally like stepping-back in time into the handcrafted oak panelled hallway with grandfather clock, brass bell and traditional clocking in machine. They’ve been making fine furniture for over 70 years.

Every craftsman serves a minimum 4 year as an apprentice to hone their skills before advancing through the ranks to become a master craftsman who make our entrusted to create our Authentic cabinets, tables and bespoke designs.

Quality is the number one priority, each piece of furniture is individually handcrafted to order. There is no mass production using a production line and CNC machines, it is simply hand craftsmanship and pride in the furniture we design and make. Every piece is dated and signed off by the maker to give substance and the provenance of Great British craftsmanship.

Is the timber sourced from sustainable sources?

The timber used in our sofa frames, chairs and slatted bed bases are sourced from FSC certified timber suppliers which ensures it is supplied from sustainable sources.

What are your sofas from made from?

Authentic sofas are all constructed from solid, seasoned hardwoods and are screwed, glued and then dowelled at the high stress point to ensure your sofa frame will stand the test of time. A lot of work goes into seasoning wood, it involves drying the timber in a kiln which will ensure the frame keeps its shape. Unseasoned timber can move as it dries and this will cause the frame to shrink and crack We then use solid panels made from birch plywood for the non-structural parts.

What spring and fillings are used in your sofas?

Keeping to our word, we want to offer you the best so our Authentic sofas come with a choice of traditional coil sprung base units or serpentine springs which compared to webbed bases offers both longevity and ultimate comfort. Our sprung units are handmade by a company in the heart of Derbyshire, they have been making sprung units since the days of carriages and carts and are widely regarded as the best.

Finally to ensure the “ooooarrrr” when you take a seat on an Authentic sofa only the best quality will do, to ensure this we use a full fibre wrapped cushion as this offers the best in comfort, longevity and doesn’t need constant fluffing up. We also offer foam base cushions while while not providing the sink “sink in” feel they offer a firmer sit and neater finish to the base cushions.
